Mechanical & Electrical (M&E)

At Spencer Rail Engineering, we deliver mechanical and electrical solutions that support the safe, efficient and future-ready operation of rail infrastructure. Working across stations, depots and operational facilities, our M&E expertise helps clients improve performance, enhance resilience and progress towards decarbonisation and long-term sustainability goals.

Our teams design and deliver a wide range of M&E systems, including HV and LV power distribution, HVAC, building services, instrumentation wiring and integrated control and automation solutions. Every system is engineered with reliability, maintainability and whole-life performance in mind—ensuring rail assets continue to operate safely and efficiently long after project completion.

Supporting our clients’ net zero ambitions is an increasingly important part of our work. We integrate low-carbon and energy-efficient technologies such as photovoltaic (PV) systems, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and intelligent energy management and control solutions, helping to reduce environmental impact while maintaining operational performance.

We have extensive experience delivering M&E works within fixed depot plant facilities across the UK. Our services cover end-to-end design, installation, testing and commissioning of core depot systems, including lighting, power distribution, HVAC, fire detection, train shore supply, controlled emission toilet (CET) systems and fuel infrastructure. These systems are supported by fully integrated depot-wide MEP and building services, tailored to each client’s operational requirements.

Across our station projects, we provide complete M&E solutions that enhance safety, accessibility and passenger experience. This includes platform and canopy lighting, LV power distribution, HVAC systems and fully integrated fire detection, security and communications networks. We design, install and commission CCTV, customer information systems (CIS), public address (PA) systems, as well as water, sanitary and heating services for both operational areas and staff facilities. All works are delivered in line with rail standards, ensuring safe, reliable operation, straightforward maintenance and long-term performance within live, public-facing environments.
