Depots & Sidings
At Spencer Rail Engineering, we deliver complex depot and sidings projects that support the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the rail network. Supported by specialist in-house design and engineering teams, we have a proven track record across the UK rail depot sector—providing bespoke solutions that range from the enhancement and modernisation of existing facilities to the design and construction of entirely new depots.
Through carefully planned upgrade and modernisation programmes, we help clients create smart, electrified maintenance environments that improve the efficiency and resilience of rolling stock servicing. Our depot solutions integrate core servicing systems such as train wash, AdBlue, HVAC and fume extraction, alongside specialist maintenance equipment including wheel lathes, lifting cranes and bogie drops. We also deliver safe access arrangements, dedicated inspection and maintenance areas, and fully equipped accommodation and welfare facilities—supporting safe, streamlined day-to-day operations.
Many of our depot works are delivered within live operational environments, where maintaining service continuity is critical. To achieve this, all activities are carefully planned and sequenced to minimise disruption and maintain full operational performance throughout delivery. By working closely with our clients and their operational teams, we develop a detailed understanding of each depot’s requirements—allowing us to tailor solutions that keep facilities running safely and efficiently during construction.
As a contractor on the Fixed Depot Plant Framework, we work collaboratively with Network Rail, Train Operating Companies and Freight Operating Companies to supply, install and maintain critical plant and equipment. These solutions are designed to meet the evolving operational, safety and environmental demands of the rail depot sector.
By integrating engineering, plant and operational requirements seamlessly into depot environments, we deliver modern, compliant and future-ready facilities. The result is safer, more efficient depot and sidings infrastructure, tailored to each client’s needs and built to support long-term performance across the rail network.
